Mercy Clinic to Serve North St. Louis at The Tabernacle Hub

ST. LOUIS - To reach residents in traditionally underserved North St. Louis, Mercy Clinic has joined forces with The Tabernacle offering care and social services in the community. Mercy Clinic North St. Louis (Tabernacle), 3000 East Prairie Ave., will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday with a provider available for walk-in visits Tuesday through Thursday mornings.

Health care access and quality is one factor among others that make up social determinants of health, shown to impact one's overall health, wellbeing and quality of life. Offering a venue where the community can seek social and behavioral services as well as health care, the new Mercy Clinic hopes to address some of these needs.

"When Pastor Andre approached us with the idea of a clinic in a place of worship, it made total sense," said Andy Runge, chief operating officer of Mercy Clinic's eastern Missouri region. "We want to be where it's convenient and the community feels comfortable and in this area that's the church."

Mercy Clinic Opens in North St. Luois

Pastor Andre Alexander shares why the new Mercy Clinic at The Hub will make such a difference to the community.

A community health worker will be available to assist with Mercy services, Medicaid and ACA enrollment, social assessments, transportation arrangements and more. A social worker will be available to provide behavioral health support in collaboration with our primary care provider. A family medicine nurse practitioner will be available to provide convenient care services for pediatric and adult patients. In early 2022, an OB/GYN will provide women's health services as well.

"The significance of a Mercy Clinic in North St. Louis City is immeasurable," said Andre Alexander, president of the Tabernacle Community Development Corporation and pastor at The Tabernacle Church. "It provides an additional conduit for health care to be accessible for residents offered in exceptional facility by phenomenal people."

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services social determinants of health are conditions in the environments where people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning and quality-of-life outcomes and risks. Along with health care access, the other four domains include economic stability, education access and quality, neighborhood environment and relationships.
