Russian sappers demine farmland on the outskirts of Mardakert city in Nagorno-Karabakh

The sapper groups of the humanitarian demining company of the Russian peacekeeping contingent continue to clear the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh from mines and explosive objects.

Currently, Russian servicemen are actively searching for explosives on the outskirts of Mardakert city. Here, on the territory of agricultural land, artillery positions were located during the hostilities. At the moment, local residents cannot resume agricultural work until a complete clean-up of the area is carried out.

Recently, on the territory of the Mardakert region, Russian sappers have discovered and neutralized more than 50 large-caliber shells and explosive objects.

In total, since November 23, 2020, the servicemen of the humanitarian demining unit of the Russian peacekeeping contingent have cleared 1,960 hectares of territory, 605 kilometers of roads, 1,692 buildings, including 30 socially significant objects and neutralized 25,484 explosive objects.

In accordance with the agreements specified in the joint statement of the President of the Russian Federation, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, from 00:00 Moscow time on November 10, 2020, a complete ceasefire and all hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh were announced.

To monitor the ceasefire and military operations, a peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is being deployed in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

The basis of the Russian peacekeeping contingent consists of units of the 15th separate motorized rifle brigade (peacekeeping) of the Central Military District.
