Man facing impaired charges following four-vehicle collision

Halifax District RCMP charged a driver from Antigonish County following a four-vehicle collision on Hwy. 7 in Preston last evening.

At 5:20 p.m. RCMP responded to a collision in the 1900 block of Hwy. 7, in Preston. The collision involved four vehicles including two SUVs and two cars. A red car veered into oncoming traffic and struck another car and then two SUVs. The passenger of the red car, a 36-year-old woman from Truro, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The other five people involved were checked and released at the scene.

The driver of the red car showed signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene without incident. He was transported to Cole Harbour Detachment to provide further breath samples.

Lawrence Lanceleve, 35, has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Conveyance, Operate a Conveyance with Blood Alcohol in excess of 80 mgs% and Fail to Comply with Recognizance x 7. Further charges are pending. Lanceleve was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on November 25 at 9:30 a.m.

The Hwy. 7 was closed for several more hours while an RCMP collision analyst attended the scene. The road has since been re-opened.

The investigation is ongoing.
