The National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) and the Foreign Ministry announced that they will soon sign memorandums of understanding with India's leading research institution and the Korean Aerospace Agency to promote joint scientific and technological projects. They also reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying academic exchanges and programs with various nations and international universities.

At the inauguration of the first IPN International Forum 2022, whose theme is "Connecting Education, Science and Technology," IPN Director General Arturo Reyes, accompanied by Javier Dávila from the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) and the Director of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, Luis Gutiérrez, thanked Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard for his support in increasing the internationalization of the IPN, a leader in science and technology in the country.

He highlighted the importance of internationalization to enhance the knowledge and skills of the IPN, increase its presence and reputation abroad and prepare new generations to innovate and promote changes and solutions to global problems.

The forum will lead to opportunities, partnerships and national and international institutional support that will enable IPN researchers, academics and students to cross the borders of knowledge with the support of their alma mater, he said.

In his keynote speech, the IPN head shared his experiences as a scientist at universities in the United States and the United Kingdom, saying that there was a lot of talent and innovation in Mexico, but that international collaboration was needed.

"The great scientific developments, such as vaccines, originated in institutions of higher education and research centers, rather than in pharmaceutical companies," he said.

He mentioned the IPN's efforts to expand its international role, such as the creation of the Internationalization Committee and partnerships with the Queen Mary University of London, the University of California and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, in addition to the IPN's participation in the Mexican pavilion at the 2022 BIO International Convention.

He said that on a visit to Turkey and Belgium he had signed a memorandum of understanding with Istinye University to strengthen collaboration in medical and health sciences, where he was nominated as a board member of the Eurasian Universities Council (EURAS).

For Amexcid, Javier Dávila praised the relationship between the IPN and the Mexican Foreign Ministry. He said that the IPN has been successfully achieving its goal of internationalization.

He announced that, as a result of a recent visit to India, the IPN would soon be signing a memorandum of understanding with India's leading research institution and another with the Korean Aerospace Agency.

The Head of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, Luis Gutiérrez, highlighted the participation of the IPN in the Consortium of Higher Education Institutions for the Education of Mexicans Abroad (CIESDEMEX), which seeks to include graduate scholarships, promote ties with scientists from the Mexican diaspora and carry out research with a transnational impact.

He said that the IPN is essential because of its higher education offerings, graduate programs and research, which has yielded benefits for society.

During the roundtable on "The Social Impact of Internationalization on Higher Education," the diplomatic representatives of Spain, Finland, Australia, Germany and Sweden discussed the strengths and opportunities offered by their educational systems in terms of academic mobility and international exchanges.
