City of Milton Now Accepting Applications for Summer Youth Internship

Milton, FL - The City of Milton is excited to announce the launch of its Summer Youth Intern Program for 2024, hosted by the city's LEAP Committee, which stands for Leadership, Experience in Communication, Academics, and Professionalism. This dynamic program, open to local youth aged 16-18, is designed to offer invaluable insights into municipal government through hands-on experience and mentorship.

Running from June 3rd - 28th, 2024, the program will immerse interns in a variety of activities that span the full spectrum of city operations. From planning and attending key city events like Bands on the Blackwater and City Council meetings, to crafting timely press releases in the Public Information Office, interns will gain practical skills and a thorough understanding of local government functions. Additional experiences include shadowing first responders to witness the rigor of their training and learning general inner city-workings, such as how to initiate a sidewalk paving request or obtain a building permit.

"Our goal is not only to prepare the youth for future careers in public service but also to equip them as informed constituents who understand the workings of their government," said Ed Spears, Assistant City Manager. "This program will empower them to effectively use their voices and resources as future taxpayers and community representatives."

Interns are expected to commit to all scheduled events as outlined in the detailed internship calendar provided with the application packet. They will work 20 hours per week, earning $12 per hour for their contributions to the city. While preference is given to Milton residents, all eligible youth from Santa Rosa County are encouraged to apply.

Applications are available online here and can be emailed to Jay Conrad at [email protected] or delivered in person to the City Hall front desk. The deadline for submissions is 4:30 PM on May 24, 2024. For further details or to address any inquiries, please contact the program office at 850-983-5440.
