Positive case confirmed in student of St Anne's School, with 30 children identified as contacts

Sunday 18 July 2021

A positive case of Covid-19 has been identified in a child who attends St Anne's School in Alderney.

As a result, about 30 children who were at school on Wednesday and Thursday last week have been identified as contacts of the positive case. These children are in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Public Health will contact parents/carers of those children identified as contacts. Until this has been completed, any parent with a child in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 is asked to stay at home until contacted. Please don't call Public Health, they will contact you if your child is in one of those three year groups.

Public Health has put in place a series of measures for those children identified as contacts from the school. Children identified will need to:

  • Have buccal (mouth) swab every other day until day 13 from the date of last contact
  • Stay at home, other than;
  • Can go outdoors for exercise, socially distanced and not mixing with anyone from outside their household. This can take place providing that other household members have not been identified as a case or close contact of a case requiring them to isolate.

Further details on how this testing will be done will be discussed with the parent/carer when they are contacted by Public Health. This will be in the next 24 hours.

Other household members can attend their workplace unless they are a case/contact in isolation.

Affected households will be allowed to bubble with one other household (e.g. other families, double-vaccinated grandparents) for support with childcare. However, they need to consider the risk of this if any household members are vulnerable.

Any family with a child identified as a contact that needs to leave the island needs to discuss this with Public Health. This will not be before Day 7 after possible exposure.

Separately, Public Health is also asking anyone who was at Alderney Airport on 12th July between 8.45am-3pm to come forward for testing. This was a day when the airport was fogged in.

Anyone currently in Alderney who was at Alderney Airport on this day between the times identified is asked to contact the welcome centre in Alderney on 01481 520266 between 8am and 5.30pm, 7 days a week, to book in for a test.

If you are currently in Guernsey and were at Alderney Airport on the day and between the times identified, please contact the clinical helpline on 01481 756938 or 01481 756969.
