New Training on Colorado Traveler Safety Created as Free Resource for Frontline Workers

Colorado Concierge online module addresses risks from lightning strikes to COVID

DENVER, Aug. 11, 2020 - The Colorado Tourism Office (CTO)'s latest online training module aims at equipping frontline workers to help visitors steer clear of dangers ranging from altitude sickness to avalanches to the new risk of coronavirus.

Created in partnership with Denver-based UCHealth, the new module on the CTO's Colorado Concierge online training platform is offered as a free resource for any worker, business or organization. Available at BeAColoradoConcierge.com, the platform also includes training on Colorado-style hospitality, essential Colorado facts, the Care for Colorado stewardship program and the state's eight travel regions.

'Unlike tamer destinations, Colorado is a place where adventure is real, and unwary travelers can easily put themselves or others at risk if they aren't aware of potential dangers,' said Cathy Ritter, director of the Colorado Tourism Office. 'And now it's important for everyone to take precautions against a danger we've never faced before -- coronavirus.'

Most people should be able to complete the new web-based Traveler Safety module in a half hour and can access it free of charge on a computer or via a mobile app. Sprinkled with short quizzes, the training touches on a wide range of health and safety topics, including Colorado weather awareness, staying safe during various summer and winter outdoor activities, avoiding dangerous wildlife encounters, and what to do if a visitor is displaying COVID symptoms.

All of the content was developed with UCHealth, a nationally recognized, nonprofit network of 12 acute-care hospitals and more than 150 clinics throughout Colorado, southern Wyoming and western Nebraska. The CTO currently is working with the Metropolitan State University-Denver School of Hospitality to develop another new training module teaching frontline workers how to manage unprecedented customer service issues during pandemic conditions.

Launched in late 2018, Colorado Concierge initially was designed to equip frontline workers and others with great answers to a common question: 'What is there to do around here?' The platform also aims to educate frontline workers to share the Care for Colorado Principles with visitors, share Colorado-style customer service and give themselves opportunities for career growth.

Anyone completing all five training modules receives a downloadable certificate of completion.
