Police Recover Stolen Catalytic Converters, Handgun and Narcotics After West Seattle Theft

Police arrested recovered nine catalytic converters, along with large quantities of heroin, meth and cash, and a stolen handgun, after a West Seattle resident called 911 last week and reported a man was sawing something off his neighbor's car.

Around 3:30 PM on July 22^nd, a resident in the 10000 block of 41^st Avenue Southwest was watching a security camera feed outside his home when he saw a man climb under a neighbor's car. He then heard the distinct sound of grinding and sawing metal and called 911.

As the resident was on the phone with 911, the suspect left in a silver Acura. Officers spotted the car nearby, eventually pulling the driver over near SW 100^th St and 33th Avenue SW.

Officers noticed a saw in the car, and the driver soon brought up the topic of stolen catalytic converters before police had told him what they were investigating.

Police were able to confirm the suspect had stolen a catalytic converter and found he was carrying 47 grams of methamphetamine, 355 percocet and $1,300 in cash. Officers booked them man into jail for theft and narcotics.

Major Crimes Taskforce detectives later served a warrant on the suspect's car and recovered a box containing nine catalytic converters packed in foam, along with a backpack containing $17,000 in rubber-banded cash, 141 grams of heroin, 13 oxycodone pills, a collection of cut copper pipes, and a stolen, loaded handgun. The suspect also his prior felony convictions, making him unable to legally possess firearms.
