Additional men charged over fraudulent overseas money transfers - Financial Crimes Squad

A further three men have been charged following an investigation into more than $2 million in suspicious electronic money transfers across the Greater Sydney metropolitan area.

In October 2021, detectives attached to the State Crime Command's Financial Crimes Squad established Strike Force Beswick to investigate a criminal syndicate allegedly laundering the proceeds of crime overseas.

It's alleged the syndicate transferred more than $2.4 million through about 475 electronic money transfers, creating accounts using fraudulent identity documents.

So far during the investigation, ten men - aged between 22 and 27 - have been charged over their alleged roles in the syndicate and remain before the courts.

Following further inquiries, three men attended Granville and Bankstown Police Stations yesterday morning (Monday 27 June 2022).

A 22-year-old man has since been charged with deal with property proceeds of crime less than $100,000, two counts of knowingly deal with proceeds of crime intent to conceal, dishonestly obtain property by deception, possess identity info to commit etc indictable offence, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Tuesday 28 June 2022).

A second 22-year-old man was charged with deal with property proceeds of crime less than $100,000, two counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception, three counts of knowingly deal with proceeds of crime intent to conceal, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

He was refused bail and appeared at Parramatta Local Court yesterday, where he was formally refused bail to appear at the same court on Thursday 1 September 2022.

A 21-year-old man was charged with three counts of deal with property proceeds of crime less than $100,000.

He was refused bail and appeared at Bankstown Local Court yesterday, where he was formally refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday 24 August 2022.

In total, 13 men have now been charged over their alleged involvement in the syndicate.
