Comptroller Darren M. Morton releases the 2017 Independent City Audit Report

Comptroller Darren M. Morton releases the 2017 Independent Audit for the City of Mount Vernon, which is scheduled for adoption by the City Council at their upcoming meeting. Since taking office in January 2022, Comptroller Morton has focused on improving the financial status of the City, including but not limited to increased accountability, transparency, financial analysis, and budget forecasting. Completion of the 2017 Audit is another step towards restoration of the City's credit rating.

Given the number of delinquent audits, the process of completing these audits has been arduous, and requires a deliberate strategy. Comptroller Morton has coordinated with the city auditors, PFK O'Connor Davies, internal staff, and external consultants to develop and strategic approach for completion of the City audits. Comptroller Morton has established a very aggressive timeline and anticipates completion of City audits through fiscal year 2021 by January 2025, beginning with 2018 audit by June 2024.
