Council Launches What's Your Game? Club and Coach Education Programme promoting excellence in local sport

A sports education initiative aimed at promoting excellence in local sports, was launched recently by the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Cllr Howard Thornton.

The 'What's Your Game?' Club and Coach Education Programme, delivered and funded by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, provides opportunities for those involved in sport in the district to gain coach education.

Speaking at the launch of the 'What's Your Game?' programme, the Chairman of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council, Councillor Howard Thornton, said

'Fermanagh and Omagh District Council acknowledges and appreciates the huge contribution made by the many clubs, coaches, leaders and teachers to supporting and developing athletes throughout the district across a diverse range of sports and it is delighted to support their development and continuous improvement by investing in the 'What's Your Game?' programme.

This initiative is a wonderful opportunity for all those involved in sport to avail of high quality sports training and coaching at a reduced cost and I would urge Clubs and organisations to encourage their coaches to avail of this excellent opportunity.'

Clubs and organisations can also apply to the Council for financial assistance to attend the courses via the Council's Every Body Active grant aid programme, helping to further reduce the cost of participation and ensuring as many people as possible can benefit from the programme. In order to be eligible for coach education costs, the club and coach attending the course must deliver a programme that is additional to the training already provided.

Courses available on the 'What's Your Game?' Club and Coach Education Programme are also beneficial to junior sports clubs in helping them to achieve Clubmark NI status - a recognised standard which demonstrates a club has achieved a level of quality in the areas of management, coaching and safety.

The 'What's Your Game' programme also includes a range of expert tuition focussing on such areas as skills development for teams and movement masterclasses to help develop young athletes keen to improve their personal performance. Being able to offer such expert coaching has the added bonus of attracting new members to clubs. These masterclasses will be delivered in partnership with the North West Coaching Network.
