In early 2019, the Coos Bay Urban Renewal Agency entered into an 18-month exclusive agreement with Tahoe Pacific Capital, LLC to design and build multi-family rental housing on City-owned property at the northwest corner of S. Wasson Street and Michigan Avenue. In the past weeks, water service and natural gas have been developed for a nine-unit project at this location. On Tuesday, October 8, 2019, the City Planning Commission authorized the project's land use permits. The building exterior will be of quality construction with architectural design and tasteful landscaping with access to Ed Lund Park. Each of the nine units will include three bedrooms and a single car garage. The layout of the units includes a garage, living/kitchen/dining area, laundry and half bath on the first level, and a third level with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. When the project construction is completed in 2020, opportunities will be provided for nine families to take up residence as a part of the Coos Bay community.
The City is pleased to be a part of forward movement on the creation of much needed new housing. This project will engage local labor, suppliers, materials, and subcontractors, provide homes for new families and continue the Empire District's ongoing revitalization.
