Parliament Debates in Second Reading Amendments to be Proposed to Law on RA Citizenship

At December 7 NA sitting, the deputies debated in the second reading the draft law on Making Addenda and Amendments to the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia authored by the Government.

According to RA Deputy Head of Police Ara Fidanyan, after the adoption of the initiative, the RA President's decree on termination of the RA citizenship based on a written confirmation on the legal opportunity to acquire citizenship of another state will enter into force from the moment the person submits the proof of acquisition of the citizenship of a foreign state to the passport service.

After being adopted in the first reading, some amendments were made on the basis of the proposals of the deputy Aram Vardevanyan and the Government. At the suggestion of the deputy, Article 24.4, which has been rewritten, has been removed, as a result of which, in case of terminating the RA citizenship, the information related to the absence of obligations by the person to the state will be collected by the authorized body, the Police by making inquiries to the relevant bodies.

The member of the RA NA Standing (Head) Committee on State and Legal Affairs presented the endorsement of the Committee.
