A New Strategy for Equity and Environmental Justice at NOAA Fisheries

For the first time, NOAA Fisheries has drafted a national, comprehensive strategy around equity and environmental justice. While fairness and equity have always been a part of NOAA Fisheries mission, codified in legislation such as the Magnuson Stevens Act, recent executive orders have made equity and environmental justice, or EEJ, a priority.

On this episode of Dive In with NOAA Fisheries, we talk with Sam Rauch, NOAA Fisheries Deputy Assistant Administrator for Regulatory Programs. We unpack what thedraft strategy means, who it impacts, and how you can contribute and help refine it. After all, that's sort of the whole point of its existence-giving everyone a seat at the table.

We also talk with Dr. Danika Kleiber, a social scientist with the Pacific Island Fisheries Science Center and the Co-Chair, along with Abigail Harley, of the EEJ Working Group. She talks a little more about the nuts and bolts of the draft strategy.
