The crews of the modernized 'Strela-10' anti-aircraft missile systems of the Air Defence Troops of the Southern Military District (SMD) repelled a massive missile and air strike (MMAS) of a mock enemy in the course of planned military training operations conducted on the Yeysky target range in the Krasnodar Krai.
Servicemen covered important ground installations and troops from air strikes of the mock enemy.
In order to complicate the task, crews of various types of aircraft adopted the role of the enemy: Su-30SM fighters, Su-25SM attack aircraft as well as Mi-8AMShT helicopters.
Aircraft entered the training area from different directions, performed anti-missile maneuvers and flights at maximum and minimum altitudes, and complex aerobatics.
In the course of accomplishing the missions, all targets were detected in a timely manner, taken on escort and destroyed by missile launches once they appeared on the far border of the firing range of the missile systems. While repelling a massive missile and air strike, the crews made more than 20 real launches and about 10 simulated ones.
Over 200 servicemen of the Southern Military District and about 50 units of military and special equipment were involved in the exercise.
