Italian Gelato Week in Vienna

Metternich Palace, home to the Italian Embassy in Vienna, hosted for the second year in a row the launch event of the Italian Gelato Week in Vienna, held from 22 to 27 April in Vienna's ice cream parlours.

The event was promoted by AGIA - Associazione Gelatieri Italiani in Austria (the Association of Italian Gelato Makers in Austria), which, for the occasion, offered participants a wide variety of flavours to discover and enjoy.

The ice cream makers shared with the large audience the secrets behind making Italian gelato, whose success all over the world is mainly associated with the use of high-quality ingredients and traditional processing techniques.

During the event, the Ambassador of Italy to Austria Giovanni Pugliese said that "as demonstrated by the story of the artisan gelato makers from Veneto and Trentino, the ingredients to make a quality product successful abroad are above all passion, tenacity, entrepreneurial spirit and perseverance. These characteristics continue to inspire not only the work of the Italian master gelato makers in Austria, but also the work of thousands of Italian entrepreneurs and artisans who promote 'Made in Italy' all over the world every day. Quality Italian cuisine and ingredients certainly add to the strong ties that bind Austria to Italy".

Italian gelato is therefore an experience that combines tradition, creativity and a passion for authentic flavours that Austrians really know and love.

"We still produce vanilla ice cream according to the old Venetian tradition, using vintage machines for the mixing process. We were very happy to share the history and stories of this dessert that has deep Italian roots with all the attending guests. It was a journey into the past and traditions but with an eye to the future," said Silvio Molin Pradel, President of AGIA.
