Portuguese Corporate Ethics Association awards REN's Social Responsibility and Sustainability

07.11.2022

REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais received the Social Responsibility and Sustainability Strategy award from the Portuguese Corporate Ethics Association (Associação Portuguesa de Ética Empresarial - APEE). This award honours the implementation of good governance policies and models in companies of the public and private sectors, and it was granted at APEE's 8th Recognition of Social Responsibility and Sustainability Practices event. At the event, the REN - Ciência LP Medals of Scientific Merit initiative was also awarded an honourable mention in the Sustainable Development Goals 13 - Climate Action category.

REN's sustainability strategy is supported by four pillars - promotion of internal well-being, stakeholder involvement and satisfaction, environmental protection, and governance and ethics - and is directly connected to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), created in 2015 by the United Nations. REN's strategy attests its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040, to maintaining sustainable development, and to fighting climate change, while strengthening the company's financial robustness and excellent operational performance.

REN - Ciência LP Medals of Scientific Merit, whose second edition will take place this year, are inspired by the "REN Award" and stem from a partnership between REN and Centro Ciência LP, with sponsorship from UNESCO and support from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). These awards are given to women aged up to 35, from Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP), who have carried out research work within the scope of their advanced training (master's or doctoral degrees) in the area of energy transition, and to students, also coming from PALOP countries, who have carried out research work within the scope of their advanced training (master's or doctoral degrees) and whose subject of study is energy transition in Africa.

The winners of the 8th edition of APEE's Recognition of Social Responsibility and Sustainability Practices were selected by a Panel that included multiple personalities from the Portuguese business fabric, which bestowed 45 trophies to companies.
