SAN ANTONIO (October 26, 2021) - The Collaborative Commission on Domestic Violence (CCDV) will host a virtual Domestic Violence Awareness Symposium from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. October 28 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. October 29 featuring 17 sessions to inform the community about strategies for all community sectors to prevent and respond to domestic violence.
The free, two-day event aims to bring domestic violence to the forefront of community and policy discussions through forward-thinking sessions and trainings. More than a dozen local and national subject matter experts will present on topics that can better inform the public at large, as well as professionals who serve victims and survivors.
"Across the nation, incidents of domestic violence have been on the rise and the unfortunately the same can be said locally. As a community, we must work together to bring resources, services and prevention programs to those in need," said Deputy City Manager María Villagómez, CCDV co-chair. "This symposium is part of those efforts, and we invite the community to participate to help us identify and create solutions to break the cycle of domestic violence."
"The symposium is an opportunity for the public to come together during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and have open and honest dialogue about this public health issue through sessions and speaker presentations," said Judge Monique Diaz, CCDV co-chair.
The symposium begins at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, October 28, with remarks from Rosie Hidalgo McCabe, Senior Advisor on Gender-Based Violence and Special Assistant to the President, White House Gender Policy Council. To register, visit www.ccdv.org.
A full list of confirmed speakers and presentation schedule can be found on the registration page.

The Commission consists of six Committees, including healthcare, prosecution, judiciary, law enforcement, education, and non-profit.
