Operating results of Makedonski Telekom for the first nine months of 2018

  • Increase in the number of users of broadband internet and IPTV services
  • Net profit increased by 16.8% compared to the same period last year

Makedonski Telekom shows positive trends in the first nine months of the operation. Sales revenues show an increase of 1.7%, profitability increased, and the number of users of broadband internet and IPTV services of the company is continuously growing.

Earnings before income, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) in the first nine months of 2018 increased by 6.7% compared to the same period last year, whereas the net profit increased by 16.8%

Increase of the number of users of broadband internet and IPTV services, expansion of the optical network

After a period of stagnation, starting from last year the Company recorded a positive reversal of the trend in the number of broadband internet users. At the end of the first nine months of 2018, the total number of broadband internet users increased by 1.7% compared to the same period last year and reached 192.7 thousand.

The trend of increase in the number of IPTV customers continued (including Magenta 1, Internet and TV and other TV services) by 8.7% compared to the same period last year, which resulted in a customer base of 124.1 thousand at the end of the first nine months of 2018. Thus Makedonski Telekom has a share of 29.7% of the total TV market (internal estimate).

Makedonski Telekom continued to invest in the optical network throughout the country in order to bring the most advanced technology closer to the customers, and as a result the number of households and families with optical access increased by 11%, compared to the same period last year. Therefore, as a result of the continuous expansion of the optical network, at the end of the first nine months of 2018 as many as 30% of the households in Macedonia have access to optics from Makedonski Telekom and a possibility to use super fast internet.

Increased share of post paid subscribers in the mobile network, growth of the non-voice services

In the first nine months, Makedonski Telekom managed to increase the share of the post-paid subscribers in its own mobile network. As a result, at the end of the first nine months of 2018 the Company has 1,236 thousand subscribers or 49% share on the mobile telephony market (internal estimate). The revenues from non-voice services at the end of the first nine months of 2018 increased by 12.6% compared to the same period last year, as a result of the increased mobile internet revenues and the higher GPRS traffic, as well as the increased use of data tariff models.

We managed to increase the share of postpaid subscribers in our own mobile network, and as a result of the attractive offers during the summer period we achieved a significant success in the post paid segment. Our strategic initiative to accelerate the fixed segment and provide attractive and exclusive TV content contributed to the growth of fixed broadband internet users and increase of the number of Magenta 1 users, a unique converged product that was created according to the needs of all family members.
