Concerts, History and Nature Programs, and Symphony at the Seashore on Tap at the National Seashore this Summer

WELLFLEET, Mass - End your day the perfect way, with music, presentations, and performance events at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham. Events are held every Tuesday and Wednesday at 7 pm from June 28 through August 31 (except August 24) at the outdoor amphitheater on the shores of Salt Pond or in the indoor auditorium. In addition, Cape Symphony returns for Symphony at the Seashore on Friday, August 26. Salt Pond Visitor Center is located at 50 Nauset Road, Eastham.

For outdoor programs, bench and lawn seating are available, picnicking is welcome, and bug spray is suggested. Indoor programs are held in the air-cooled auditorium, and doors open at 6:30 pm. Some events are geared toward families. In the event of rain, outdoor programs will be moved indoors, except the Payomet Circus and Symphony at the Seashore, which have rain dates.

Events are free and are sponsored by Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore, with additional sponsorship by the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival, Payomet Performing Arts Center, and Cape Symphony.

Note that in the event of high COVID-19 transmission in Barnstable County, masks may be required for indoor events.

June 28: Outer Cape Chorale Chamber Singers The Outer Cape Chorale performs acapella at its finest--from madrigals to folk to pop. Join us for an evening of song that will lift you up. Indoor concert.

June 29: Underwater Archeology and the Whydah, with Barry Clifford Underwater archeological explorer Barry Clifford shares the captivating story of the wreck of the pirate ship Whydah, the process of recovering artifacts from the sea floor, and what they tell us. Indoor program. Reservations are required and may be made up to one week in advance by calling Salt Pond Visitor Center at 508-255-3421, ext. 9.

July 5: Sarah Swain and the Oh Boys Sarah and the Oh Boys have been together since 2008, playing Sarah's originals, rockabilly classics, and always some unexpected treasures. Their set has a vibrant energy that always gets the crowd dancing. Outdoor concert.

July 6: Saving Entangled Whales, with Scott Landry Scott Landry, researcher and director of the Marine Animal Entanglement Response team at the Center for Coastal Studies, will discuss this complex problem of entanglement. Indoor program.

July 12: Toast and Jam Tim Dickey and Julie Charland will perform original bluegrass, modern folk, Americana, swing and more. They are often accompanied by musicians on bass and fiddle. Indoor concert.

July 13: Salt Marsh Dieback and the Future of Cape Cod, with Stephen M. Smith Salt marshes perform many vital roles, including filtering pollutants, providing nursery habitat for shellfish and finfish, and buffering storm surge. Learn of their status and recent research. Indoor program.

July 19: Groovalottos Thismulti-Grammy nominated soul-funk jam band and musical production team was created by veteran touring and studio session players and singers. Their funky fellowship of journeymen players turns every show into a party. Outdoor concert.

July 20: The Promises of a Seashore, with Bill Burke Seashore Historian Bill Burke recounts the urgency and debate over the proposed park on the wild lands of the Outer Cape. What was at stake, who was in opposition, what were the compromises, and have 1950s promises been fulfilled? Indoor program.

July 26: CrabGrass Considered Cape Cod's premier bluegrass band,CrabGrass brings its mix of old and new foot-stomping bluegrass to the stage. Indoor concert.

July 27: Sharks and Seals, with Bryan Legare and Lisa Sette These researchers will share what they are learning about the dynamic relationship between sharks and seals in the marine environment. Indoor program.

August 2: Big Jazz This local collaboration of eclectic musicians performs original compositions and specially stylized but familiar songs, from James Taylor and Nora Jones, to mainstream jazz legends. Outdoor concert.

August 3: Whales, Octopi, and Sharks, Oh My! This family-fun event features Stand-up Chameleon Jackson Gillman leading a musical dive into sea science. Indoor program.

August 9: Bin There, Dump That: A Circus Recycling AdventurePayomet's Cirque by the Sea is back with another rollicking fun family circus show, including high aerials on the outdoor stage.

August 10: Wampanoag Traditions, with Elizabeth James-Perry Aquinnah Wampanoag researcher and visual artist Elizabeth James-Perry discusses the intersection between a healthy environment, traditional ecological knowledge, and creating painstakingly fine art from locally sourced, long-valued Native materials. Indoor program.

August 16: eGALitarian Brass This all-woman ensemble breaks the boundaries of chamber music as a classical quintet and brass band ensemble. Their repertoire includes pop, jazz, New Orleans, and Latin tunes. Sponsored by Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival. Outdoor concert.

August 17: Jobi Pottery, with Susan Kurtzman Jobi™ Pottery is an original Truro cottage industry that began in 1953 in a hot dog shack near Highland Lighthouse. Today its production studio workshop and gallery keep the tradition alive. Indoor program.

August 23: Jason Spooner Band This band has shared the stage with Ray LaMontagne, Brandi Carlisle, Guster, Amos Lee, and Blues Traveler. Their energetic show blends roots rock, Americana, blues, folk, and groove-oriented jazz. Outdoor concert.

August 26: Symphony at the Seashore, with Cape Symphony This 90-minute multi-media outdoor performance features popular classics, Broadway favorites, a Disney medley, and stirring patriotic tunes. Outdoor games for families from 6-6:45 pm. Shuttle service is provided to and from the event from the Little Creek Parking Area on Doane Road.

August 30: Alexis P. Suter Band Alexis P. is that booming voice you can hear roaring out of Brooklyn. She and her band perform blues, soul, roots, and rock. Sponsored by Payomet Performing Arts Center. Outdoor concert.

August 31: Our Waters and the Kettle Ponds, with Sophia Fox This deep dive with the national seashore's aquatic ecologist, Sophia Fox, explores our precious water resources and kettle ponds. Indoor program.
