WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif.) announced he will lead a bipartisan congressional delegation over the Thanksgiving holiday to visit servicemembers and veterans in Japan and South Korea beginning on Friday, November 19.

"As we celebrate Thanksgiving this year and give thanks to all who have served our nation, it is my honor to lead a bipartisan congressional delegation to visit our American servicemembers and veterans living throughout Asia," said Chairman Takano. "No matter where or when our servicemembers serve, it is our duty to be there for them and ensure they receive the high quality healthcare and support they have earned. Throughout our tour of Japan and South Korea, my colleagues and I will have the opportunity to connect with veterans and servicemembers who live abroad and hear their experiences firsthand. I'm especially looking forward to sharing Thanksgiving meals with servicemembers and veterans who have sacrificed holidays with their families in service to our nation."

During the tour, Members will have an opportunity to meet with foreign dignitaries, military leadership, servicemembers, and veterans themselves to gain first-hand insight into how servicemembers and veterans who live outside of the continental United States access key healthcare, benefits, and support services. On Thanksgiving day, Members will share lunch and dinner with American veterans and servicemembers currently stationed in South Korea who are spending the holiday away from their families.

The congressional delegation will include:

  • Chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif.), House Committee on Veterans' Affairs (HVAC)
  • Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC), HVAC
  • Congressman Colin Allred (D-Tex.), HVAC
  • Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), HVAC, House Armed Services Committee (HASC)
  • Congresswoman Sara Jacobs (D-Calif.), HASC, House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC)
