Six Residents Displaced in Two Alarm Fire in Algiers

On Friday, November 12, 2021 at 1:09 am, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to a 911 call reporting a fire in the abandoned building next door. The first up responding fire crews arrived at 1420 Hendee Street at 1:14 am to find a two- story, abandoned single family home fully involved in fire. The call came from the next door neighbors' home, 1418 Hendee which is also a two-story single family home.
A Second Alarm was struck at 1:16 am. The abandoned home sustained heavy fire damage and fire spread to the occupied home which sustained medium fire, smoke and water damage. All six residents escaped without injury.
The fire was placed under control at 2:10 am.
The American Red Cross responded to assist the residents.
The New Orleans Emergency Medical Services (NOEMS), the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) and Entergy responded to assist the NOFD with this incident.
Sixteen NOFD units carrying forty-four Fire Operations personnel were used in the mitigation of this incident.
