Camille Stewart Gloster Returns to #ShareTheMicInCyber

Camille Stewart Gloster, former Deputy National Cyber Director for Technology & Ecosystem Security at the White House Office of the National Cyber Director, will be returning as an advisor to #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellowship at New America. She will work to strategically support the program's expansion and other projects that diversify cybersecurity, a core passion that led her to start the #ShareTheMicInCyber movement. Camille shared the motivation for her return saying, "Now, more than ever, we must all recognize the urgency of cultivating diverse multidisciplinary mid-career talent in cybersecurity to advance national security and economic prosperity. #ShareTheMicInCyber continues to be a lighthouse for the work necessary for the cybersecurity and tech workforce to reflect the diversity of America. I can think of no better way to continue the work I led at the White House to build a more resilient, defensible, and equitable digital ecosystem."

Camille will be returning to the movement that she began with Lauren Zabierek in June 2020, which focuses on increasing visibility of marginalized voices in the cybersecurity sector. They organized five rounds of online conversations where established leaders- including Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Director Jen Easterly and former National Security Agency Director of Cybersecurity Rob Joyce-began to highlight Black cyber practitioners' stories via their social media platforms. As momentum built around the movement, there was a need to do more to start putting this storytelling into action. Lauren, who is also an advisor, says "I am thrilled for Camille's return to #ShareTheMicInCyber-after several campaigns and the founding of this fellowship where we demonstrated the importance of diversity in cybersecurity, she translated her vision into action in her role at the White House. Now, I'm excited to see how she brings her experience developing national cybersecurity and workforce policy at the highest levels of our government back to making change at the grassroots level."

The #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellowship was launched in partnership with New America in August 2022 in an effort to expand the action behind their vision. With the early support of Craig Newmark Philanthropies, Google, Schmidt Futures, and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Fellowship now supports a cohort of diverse, mid-career cybersecurity professionals researching cybersecurity topics that are consequential to society and national security. Peter Singer, Strategist and Senior Fellow at New America, says, "Camille is not just an incredible leader in the cybersecurity field in her own right, but she also helped launch a movement that will nurture the next generation of cyber leaders. We are so excited to have her back at New America." As the #ShareTheMicInCyber Fellowship finishes its second year, we are set to expand the impact of our work by showcasing experts and perspectives from different corners of cybersecurity, and are laying the foundation to retain a skilled, diverse cybersecurity workforce in the years ahead.
