Countywide Street Racing Operation NR22142mc

Los Angeles: On May 13, 2022, the Los Angeles Police Department Street Racing Taskforce (SRT) conducted a joint countywide street racing abatement operation in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Taskforce for Regional Auto-Theft Prevention (TRAP), Long Beach Police Department, and Alhambra Police Department.

The taskforce combated street racing activity that spread throughout the City of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County (Compton, Long Beach, Cerritos, Whittier, and Paramount). The operation resulted in the apprehension of 15 individuals engaged in exhibition of speed and takeover activity. There were over 23 misdemeanor arrests and 14 vehicle impounds. Nearly 30 enforcement stops were conducted, which included emissions compliance inspections that identified various California Vehicle Code violations.

Social media has fueled street racing takeovers. Street racing and intersection takeovers are illegal, pose a danger to participants, spectators, and the community at large. This activity is not tolerated and enforcement action will continue.

Anyone with tips related to intersection takeovers are asked to call the Central Traffic Division Street Racing Taskforce, Sergeant II Jesse Garcia, at 213-486-0736 or email him at [email protected].
