Reconnect With Winter in Colorado Through New Adventures On and Off the Slopes, Lodging Offerings, Culinary Experiences and More

DENVER, Colo. (Sept. 23, 2021) - There is a crispness in the air, which means that snow is around the corner. With the change of seasons comes a renewed excitement around a return to winter travel, and Colorado's breathtaking landscapes and outdoor winter adventures are the ultimate way to immerse in "Snow's Perfect State."

Visitors to Colorado will be welcomed with exciting new travel offerings both on and off the slopes from arts and cultural experiences like the opening of Meow Wolf's "Convergence Station" in Denver to the celebration of snow with major anniversaries like the 75th anniversary of skiing at Aspen Snowmass and Arapahoe Basin. Travelers can revel in their winter adventures over a meal or craft beverage at a variety of new and distinct food and drink establishments across the state followed by snow-filled dreams in a large array of new accommodations.

Enticing New Attractions, Adventures and Events Off the Slopes:

Andy Warhol Takes Over the Roaring Fork Valley : A Warhol exhibit will open at the Aspen Art Museum on Dec. 3, 2021, the only place it will be shown in the U.S. The exhibit will be complemented with the showing of a private Warhol collection at The Powers Art Center in Carbondale. "Warhol in Colorado, The Artist's Relationship with John and Kimiko Powers," will display from November 30 through April 30, 2022 and features the complete portfolios of "Marilyn" and "Flowers."
Colorado to Commemorate Bicentennial of the Santa Fe Trail Throughout 2021: From 1821 to 1880, the Santa Fe Trail served as a commercial route between Mexico and the US. Traversing much of southeastern Colorado, today's Santa Fe Trail travelers can experience 1840s life as a trader at Bent's Old Fort or find wagon wheel ruts and walk sections of the trail at Comanche National Grassland. 2021 marks the 200th anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail, and to commemorate it, Canyons & Plains, a heritage tourism development organization, is telling stories about life on the trail. These stories are being released on Facebook leading up to celebrations this fall.
CSU Spur Opens in January 2022 Connecting Visitors With Science: CSU Spur brings learning to life and will inspire the next generation to engage in important issues including food, water and health. Spur is centered around making education fun and brings the offerings from the three Colorado State University System campuses to the public for free. Whether walking around the CSU Spur campus to enjoy the eight major art installations, grabbing a cup of coffee at the farm-to-table cafe, or taking a cooking class with a local chef, CSU Spur is a destination that always changes and is open year-round.
The Denver Art Museum's Martin Building Undergoes $150 Million Renovation: The Denver Art Museum's Martin Building (formerly North Building), is undergoing an extensive, multi-year renovation including the new Anna and John J. Sie Welcome Center, two new dining spaces, the Bartlit Learning and Engagement Center and updated galleries. The entire building is scheduled to reopen to the public on Oct. 24, 2021, in celebration of its 50th anniversary at the end of 2021.
DEN is Building 39 New Concourse Gates: DEN is increasing overall capacity at the airport by 30 percent with 39 new gates to be added on all three concourses to allow DEN's airlines an opportunity to grow and for DEN to accommodate new airlines, including international carriers. Construction on all expansion work is expected to be substantially completed by the end of 2021 and gates will be operational in 2022.
Estes Park Opens Cloud Ladder Via Ferrata Route: Cloud Ladder, the steepest and most vertical Via Ferrata route in the US opened in summer 2021. Located at the foot of Rocky Mountain National Park, the new route is part of The Alpine Jewel, a private adventure destination. The new route complements the highly-acclaimed, original Estes Park Via Ferrata route, Peregrine Ridge (est. 2017) that appeals to beginner and intermediate climbers. Cloud Ladder provides 625 feet of vertical climbing, suspension bridges, breathtaking exposure and two headwall sections.
Grand Junction Adventures Now Offers Guided Winter Climbing in Colorado National Monument: Start the day with exciting terrain and breathtaking views of Colorado National Monument through a new guided winter climbing trip. Climbers will have the option to experience the western desert sandstone rock slabs or red sandstone towers with the safety and navigational skills of a certified guide.
Herbert Bayer Center Opens in Aspen: With a soft opening in December 2021 and grand opening in June 2022, the new Resnick Center for Herbert Bayer Studies will focus on preserving and honoring the art of Bayer, who designed the Institute's historic campus, influenced the foundations of modern Aspen, and whose work is an iconic expression of the Bauhaus movement in America.
History Colorado's Trinidad History Museum Opens Borderlands of Southern Colorado: The Santa Fe Trail September 25: As communities observe the 200th anniversary of a timeless trade route, a new exhibition illuminates the influential history that happened in Colorado. On view inside a historic Santa Fe Trail-era adobe structure that is almost 150 years old, "Borderlands of Southern Colorado: The Santa Fe Trail" examines intertwined local histories of trade and migration formed along shifting lines of culture, climate, diplomacy and politics. The exhibit will remain on long-term display as a core offering at Trinidad History Museum.
Inclusive Guide Launches in Denver: The Colorado Tourism Office (CTO) entered into a first-of-its-kind partnership with Inclusive Journeys to launch the Inclusive Guide, an online community that lists safe and welcoming spaces for anyone who faces prejudice. The Beta version of the Inclusive Guide, a website like Yelp for inclusivity, launched in the Denver community on Juneteenth with a plan to launch in other cities across the country in the future.
Denver's Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art Reopens: The Kirkland Museum reopens along with a temporary exhibition "Truth, Beauty and Power: Christopher Dresser and The Aesthetic Movement," featuring the beautiful five-legged chair recently attributed to British designer Christopher Dresser. This exhibition showcases works from the Museum's permanent collections, many never seen before.
Meow Wolf Comes to Denver in Fall 2021: The immersive arts and entertainment company, Meow Wolf, opened "Convergence Station," their third permanent installation and most ambitious project yet in Denver on Sept. 17. Created by 110 collaborating artists and over 300 creatives, this 4-story exhibition is home to 70-plus installations, including cavernous spaces 30 feet high. Akin to an everlasting gobstopper, guests discover psychedelic, mind-bending art, and an underlying rich narrative, taking them on a journey of discovery into a surreal, science-fictional epic.
Estes Park's New Mustang Mountain Coaster Open Year-Round: Visitors can experience the thrills of the new Mustang Mountain Coaster all year long. The coaster opened in May 2021, and the exhilarating ride provides epic views and consists of approximately 1,000 linear feet of cable pulled uphill followed by 2,000 linear feet of gravity-fueled descent.
The New Pangolin Spa Debuts at Dunton Hot Springs: Dunton Hot Springs welcomes guests to the brand-new Pangolin Spa this winter, which officially opened in summer 2021. The cozy spa cabin features a reimagined menu of luxurious and rejuvenating alpine-inspired treatments using all-natural products from the renowned luxury wellness brand Amala.
Ridgway's San Juan Ski Joring Offers New Track Design: The Ouray County Rodeo Association will bring back San Juan Skijoring on Jan. 8 and 9, 2022. Spectators and competitors - novices always welcome - are invited to take part in the snowy fun, where skiers and snowboarders pulled by horseback riders race around the Ouray County Fairgrounds track. For 2022, San Juan Skijoring will reveal a brand new track design to increase the excitement while preserving the safety of riders and horses.
The Rocky Mountaineer Debuts its Rockies to the Red Rocks Route Through November 2021: The Rocky Mountaineer brought its luxury train journeys to a new route in the Southwest United States in 2021. The Rockies to the Red Rocks route is a two-day rail journey between Denver and Moab with an overnight stay in Glenwood Springs.
Silverthorne to Steamboat Tour de Art Itinerary Offering: This new itinerary provides an exploration < /a>of cultural offerings from Silverthorne to Steamboat. The Rocky Mountain Tour de Art includes art walks, theatre, opera, historic walking tours and more. Travelers can enjoy visual arts, performing arts, literary arts and learn about Northwest Colorado's history and heritage.
Theatre Returns to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA): The DCPA recently announced the return of the Broadway, Theatre Company, Cabaret and Off-Center seasons featuring 30 shows, which kicks off in November with the Theatre Company's A Christmas Carol in the newly renovated Wolf Theatre. Broadway shows will also return, starting with Disney's The Lion King, Hamilton is set to follow with a tentative February 2022 premiere, among several others.
United Offers New Seamless Travel from DEN to Breckenridge and Fort Collins: New for its first winter season, United is making it easier for customers to travel to Breckenridge and Fort Collins with convenient year-round ground transportation service connecting through its Denver hub. The airline is teaming up with Landline - a premium ground transportation company - to offer connecting service and baggage transfer to these popular destinations through DEN.

Major Ski Anniversaries:

Arapahoe Basin will celebrate its 75th Anniversary with a slate of special events.
• To honor its 75th Anniversary, Aspen Snowmass will be embracing 75 years of creating possibilities with Highlands and Buttermilk to follow next year.
• From the kick off of ski season with Wake Up Breck and Opening Day to Spring Finale, the Breckenridge Ski Resort plans to celebrate its 60th Anniversary season from November through Memorial Day.
Silverton will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of its chairlift all season long with events and celebrations.

Terrain Expansions and New Offerings:

Beaver Creek Resort will add 250 acres of lift-served, welcoming ski terrain for beginner and intermediate skiers to connect and elevate their mountain experience for the 2021-22 season. McCoy Park is the resort's newest learning area and is a separate, family-friendly zone, allowing for a more relaxed experience for beginner families. McCoy Park will offer 17 trails of natural, groomable glades while maintaining snowshoe and cross-country areas.
Breckenridge Ski Resort will open a brand-new chairlift set to debut on Peak 7 in early winter. The new Leitner Poma high-speed quad lift on the north side of Peak 7 will be a game-changer for the interconnected, peak-to-peak experience at the resort.
• New for the 2021-22 season, Copper is launching the Western Territory, an area on the resort's western-most side dedicated to inspiring beginner skiers, kids and families to connect with Copper's history and heritage. The area will include two new family-friendly adventure zones, two new trails and a connector trail that offer skill development and animation to help inspire families learning the sport.
• New for the 2021-22 season, Loveland will offer Snowcat tours in Dry Gulch, just east of Lift 8, a new guided backcountry experience. The entire snowcat can be booked for groups as well as individual seats.
• New for Winter 2021-22, Purgatory's free season pass for kids will now be available for ages 12 and younger. Power Kids is the only season pass in North America that grants free unlimited skiing and riding to all kids ages 12 and under, no blackout days or purchase required.
Phase One of Steamboat's Full Steam Ahead project will be complete for the upcoming season featuring an expanded base area, streamlined arrival process and the realignment of the Gondola to better improve guest spacing and flow.
Telluride will provide guests with 40 new acres of beginner and intermediate skiing including the new Grouse Glades.
• New this winter, Winter Park will offer guests sunset guided skiing and riding experiences.
• Winter Park Resort and Amtrak plan to resume the Winter Park Express ski train service in 2022 after a year hiatus.
Wolf Creek, already known for going solar and being a leader in sustainable business practices, constructed an onsite EV charging station. The charging station offers five connections with one being Level 3 (fast charge) and the remaining four being Level 2 (medium charge).

New On-Mountain Dining:

Cooper will welcome a new restaurant for winter 2021-22 called Timberline Taproom and Trading Post featuring a sawmill theme and an array of Colorado beers and light fares.
Arapahoe Basin 's new on-mountain and above-treeline food and beverage venue, Steilhang Hut will serve gourmet, made-in-Colorado sausages, warm pretzels, strudel and German beer in a warming hut.
• Visitors can enjoy the new Alpin Room in the High Alpine restaurant at Snowmass that pays homage to the ski culture and a menu influenced by the Swiss, French and Austrian Alps.
• A new food operation, Shredders, will offer guests a new dining option when visiting Monarch Mountain.
Winter Park will welcome several new and improved food and beverage options for guests this season. Ember at Snoasis is a new, outdoor wood fired dining facility overlooking Winter Park. Bradley's at the Base will offer guests tasty, scratch-made chicken dishes.

New Lodging Properties and Major Renovations:

CampV Opened in Naurita in Spring 2021: CampV was originally established in 1942 when it was built by the Vanadium Corporation to house the engineers who worked in the nearby mines just outside of Naturita, Colorado. This historic gem has been reimagined by StudioVille Crew to welcome wanderers to a remote and scenic corner of Southwest Colorado. Travelers can sleep well in one of the newly restored cabins, glamping tents, curated Airstreams or camp spots. With CampV's arts non-profit partner WE Arts, they believe every community deserves access to inspiring art and welcomes spirited travelers to their canvas.
Catbird Opened in Fall 2021 in Denver's RiNo Art District: Catbird is an independent hotel by Sage Hospitality Group and blurs the lines between hotel and home. The hotel's 165 guest rooms, which encompass a four-bedroom historic home preserved as part of the hotel, feature full kitchens with high-end housewares, unique storage and custom-built, multi-functional furniture that provide comfortable, livable spaces for everything from a one-night stay to longer extended stays. The Slate Hotel Opens in Denver in Late 2021: Located at the site of the historic original Emily Griffith Opportunity School, The Slate Hotel will begin welcoming guests late this fall. Paying tribute to the campus' legacy within Denver, the redevelopment of the 2.4-acre landmark preserved the historic buildings and will pay homage to the former school with thoughtful design touches and experiences. The four-story, 135,000-square-foot property will add 251 guest rooms to downtown Denver.
Viewline Resort Snowmass, Autograph Collection Debuts Rebrand and Renovation in Winter 2021: Viewline Resort Snowmass, Autograph Collection will reopen in December 2021 with refreshed exteriors and interiors, the debut of Ayurvedic focused Lupine Spa and new restaurant, Stark's Alpine Grill, providing the highest quality ski-in/ski-out experience in the destination. Westin Riverfront Debuted Upgrades in Summer 2021 in the Vail Valley: The Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa Avon, Vail Valley unveiled more than $1.5 million in resort upgrades this past summer, including a renovated lobby, expanded patio seating and dining, extensive new outdoor fitness equipment and a robust series of unique outdoor group exercise classes overlooking the Eagle River.

Ash'Kara Opened in Boulder: Ash'Kara is an exploration of contemporary Israeli cuisine centered around a 900-degree brick oven from acclaimed Chef Daniel Asher. Aurum Aspen Snowmass Comes to Snowmass Base Village in December 202 1: Ski town favorite Aurum will open its third location in Snowmass Base Village this winter. The restaurant, which has a proven track record with locations in Steamboat Springs and Breckenridge, will offer Seasonal New American Cuisine in an elegantly casual dining space.
America's First Full-Service, Alcohol-Free Bar, Awake Opens in Denver: Awake, an inclusive alcohol-free spirit store, bar, and coffee shop opened in Denver this past spring with a charitable mission. Bluebird Market Opens in Silverthorne this Fall: Bluebird Market is located at the hub of Fourth Street Crossing, a 3.8-acre district in the new heart of downtown Silverthorne. Tenants of the nearly 30,000-square-foot market will include a dozen chef-driven culinary concepts along with three local retail entrepreneurs and a flexible co-working space. Bluebird Market is set to open in fall 2021, marking the first activation of the Fourth Street Crossing development.
Breckenridge Distillery Debuts Interactive Spirits Lab: The Breckenridge Distillery's new interactive spirits lab allows guests to not only taste award-winning spirits, but the opportunity to delve behind the scenes of spirit production and aging while thieving directly from barrels, blending their own bottles and sampling paired bites from the award-winning kitchen and producer partners.
Deviation Distilling Opens in Denver's Dairy Block in Fall 2021: Deviation Distilling transformed an 1800s firehouse into a lively patio, intimate lounge and event space in the heart of Dairy Block's mixed-used alley in Downtown Denver. Distilling, known for its use of unique global ingredients, will be releasing a new cocktail menu and Dairy-block exclusive spirits as well as offering light, sharable bites.
EsoTerra Cider Opens in Dolores: EsoTerra Cider, located near the banks of the Dolores River in the quaint town of Dolores, is the latest cidery to open up shop in this Southwest corner of Colorado. The cidery owners seek out feral trees and historic orchards native to the area to curate ciders that are distinctively Southwest. With indoor and outdoor seating available, the tasting room not only serves up stellar ciders but also delicious food from Zoe the Tail Fine Foods.
HELLOFOOD Cafe Opens at Meow Wolf's Convergence Station: Convergence Station, Meow Wolf's largest immersive exhibition offers an in-world cafe to serve all quantum travelers. At HELLOFOOD, visitors can recharge from their cosmic exploration and find sustenance in tasty treats and bold brews. The menu features a delightfully diverse showcasing of cuisines from Colorado restaurateurs, craft breweries, coffee roasters, and bakeries.
Kenichi Comes to Snowmass Base Village in December 2021: Kenichi, a favorite Aspen restaurant that has been serving world-class sushi and pan-Asian cuisine for nearly three decades, is opening its third Roaring Fork Valley location in Snowmass Base Village.
Rise Westwood Collective Opens in Denver's Westwood Neighborhood: Rise Westwood Collective is a new resource sharing network of Latinx/BIPOC/woman owned food-based businesses, artists and artisans. The Collective's mission is to work together to bring in and keep money in the local economy and help preserve the cultural identity of the community by creating culturally relevant, community focused events that are accessible.
Three Saints Revival Opens in Late Fall in Denver: Three Saints Revival promises to be a vibrant, bohemian wine and cocktail restaurant offering tapas and small plates inspired by every edge of the Mediterranean, from Spain, Provence, and Italy to Israel, Egypt and Greece. Local entrepreneur and restaurateur Robert Thompson, who created and grew Punch Bowl Social to 20 locations from its original Denver roots, will open his newest venture in the former Hearth & Dram space in the Hotel Indigo.
