The University of Wyoming Department of Music will present the Symphonic and Community bands in concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 29, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Opening the concert will be the Community Band performing "Solstice Dance" by Jack Wilds; "Dragonfly" by Katahj Copley; and "The Bonsai Tree" by Julie Giroux. Ogechi Ukazu, Robert Belser and Amber Sturdevant will conduct the band.

The second half of the concert will feature the Symphonic Band performing "Sunshine" by Copley; "Life Painting" by Aaron Perrine; and "Of Sailors and Whales" by W. Francis McBeth, narrated by Eric Sieger. Ukazu, Logan Dominguez and Sturdevant will conduct the band.

The UW Symphonic Band performs the finest in symphonic band repertory. The Community Band is open to all area residents for their musical enjoyment; provides the opportunity for musicians to play secondary instruments; and allows advanced conducting students to conduct.

UW President Ed Seidel and his partner, Gabrielle Allen, invite all patrons to a reception following the performance to celebrate the work of this academic year's fine and performing arts units, as well as the talented musicians and ensembles.

For more information, call Kathy Kirkaldie, UW Fine Arts coordinator, at (307) 766-2160 or email [email protected].
