The Reginaldo Howard Memorial Scholarship was established in 1976 by the family and friends of the late Reginaldo 'Reggie' Howard, the first African American president of what is now the Duke Student Government The scholarship is awarded to students of African heritage from across the globe who demonstrate the potential for academic excellence and an enduring passion for justice and social change. To honor Reggie and memorialize the 40th anniversary of his death, the scholars have invited Bakari Sellers to address Duke University. Mr. Sellers is an American politician, attorney, and CNN political analyst, who represented South Carolina's 90th district in the lower house of the state legislature as the youngest African-American elected to office at the age of 22.
