Captain Timothy Albright Chosen to Lead Next Era at the Elk Grove Police Department
Elk Grove City Manager Jason Behrmann announced today the selection of Captain Timothy Albright as the next Chief of Police for the Elk Grove Police Department.
'I have great confidence in Captain Albright's ability to lead the Elk Grove Police Department. He earned this appointment by demonstrating a deep understanding and love of our diverse community and a desire to continue to build on the successes of the Department. He was highly recommended following an extensive review process that included both public and professional reviewers. Given their perspectives and my own conversations and experiences working with him, I am convinced he is the best choice to keep the Police Department moving forward,' said Behrmann.
The selection of Captain Albright concludes a national recruitment process. The process included a public meeting and online surveys to identify the characteristics that members of the public most wanted to see in their next Chief. From a pool of 23 applicants, six candidates were interviewed by three separate panels representing regional law enforcement agencies, city staff, and a public panel comprised of members of the Chief's Advisory Board and residents appointed by the City Council. The City Manager conducted additional interviews of the top three candidates before making his final decision.
'When we talk about diversity and inclusion, we often focus on racial and ethnic characteristics and that may be selling ourselves short of diversity in experience and upbringing,' said Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly. 'Captain Albright grew up in a non-traditional household, similar to the many students that I work with at juvenile hall. I believe his understanding and compassion for disadvantaged kids and families, combined with his law enforcement knowledge, skills, and abilities, will provide him with a solid base for leading the Police Department.'
Captain Albright began his law enforcement career 25 years ago with the Placer County Sheriff's Department. In 1994, he moved to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department where he served as a deputy sheriff and later as a sheriff's sergeant. His assignments included contract service to the City of Elk Grove, canine, field training, patrol, crime-scene investigations, corrections, and court security divisions. In January 2006, he was among the first group of sworn personnel to be hired for the City's newly formed Police Department. His 13 years of service to the Elk Grove Police Department have included experience as a patrol sergeant, canine sergeant, detective sergeant, patrol watch commander, Professional Standards commander, Investigations Division commander, and Operations Division commander.
Captain Albright holds a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University and a master's degree in Negotiation and Conflict Management from California State University Dominguez Hills. His executive education includes completion of the Senior Management Institute for Police and the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute.
Captain Albright is a recipient of the Silver Star for Bravery, a three-time recipient of the Bronze Star for Bravery, three-time recipient of the Life-Saving Medal, and five-time recipient of the Major Incident Ribbon.
Tim, his wife Kristina, and their three children have called Elk Grove home since 1997. In addition to his professional affiliations, Tim serves as a youth sports coach and remains involved in his church and the special needs community.
'I am honored and humbled at the opportunity to lead an organization that is focused on continually improving the quality of life in Elk Grove,' said Albright. 'I am deeply rooted and invested not only in this great organization, but in this amazing community my family and I have called home for 22 years. I am excited to lead a collection of devoted staff who are clearly focused on strong community partnerships, fair and impartial interactions, promoting public safety, and developing and promoting a diverse professional workforce.'
Captain Albright will be Elk Grove's fourth Chief of Police since its formation on July 1, 2006. Captain Albright will be officially sworn in on September 3. Until then, he will continue working alongside retiring Chief Bryan Noblett through the end of the month.
