Council approves contract to repair storm drain system on North Border Avenue

The City Council unanimously voted to authorize the City Manager to execute a $119,004.55 contract with Southern Trenchless Solutions for maintenance and repair of stormwater infrastructure at 2110 N. Border Ave.

This stormwater maintenance project is needed to repair deteriorated and failing structures settled culverts and erosion that is causing sinkholes and undermining the stormwater structures in the area. The project will also repair the deteriorated interior of the upstream inlet box with a coating to prevent flooding and water damage to other infrastructure and public and private property.

"The pipe lining process allows the damaged stormwater inlets to be repaired inside the ground without excavating and removing the existing infrastructure," said Environmental Engineer Paul Neuhaus. "An epoxy resin is put into the stormwater pipes. It hardens inside the pipe and restores the storm drain's structure. This project will prevent further damage to the street and stormwater infrastructure."

The project is scheduled to begin in Summer 2022 and be completed in about 60 days. Contractors do not anticipate any prolonged closures of North Border Avenue.
