Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training to Visit King Sabata Dalindyebo TVET College

Parliament, Wednesday, 24 January 2018-The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training will today (Wednesday, 24 January 2018) continue its week-long oversight visit in the Eastern Cape.

The oversight visit comes against the backdrop of the President's announcement of free tertiary education. The Committee will visit a number of institutions in the Eastern Cape Province to assess the institutions' readiness for the 2018 academic year, in particular admissions and registration processes.

This Committee will consider these institutions' capacity to accommodate the expansion of access to education and training. It will also consider the measures put in place to ensure that students qualify in their chosen courses of study, as this will expand the country's pool of skills, contribute towards the reduction of unemployment and inequality, and help the country realise its developmental goals.

The Committee will engage with the institutions on their plans to expand infrastructure, in particular student accommodation and other teaching and learning facilities, and some of the administrative issues that may impact on the academic enterprise.

Details of the visits are as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 24 January 2018
Time: 9.00 am
Venue: King Sabata Dalindyebo TVET College (Umtata)
