Car accidents are so common that most people will be in multiple accidents within the course of their driving years. On average, about 3 or 4 times in a person's life, he or she will find themselves in a car accident. Many crashes do not result in severe injuries, but nearly all accidents are extremely expensive. When people do sustain injuries, the result is higher costs because medical care following car crashes is extremely expensive.
In Florida, car crashes have been on the rise. In 2014, there were 344,170 traffic accidents, averaging out to about 943 crashes every day. By 2016, there were 395,785 collisions, which is an average of 1081 each day. More people were killed in accidents in Florida in 2016 than in 2014 as well. In 2014, there were 2,336 fatal car crashes, which led to 2,494 deaths. In 2016, 3,176 people were killed in 2,935 accidents.
One major contributing factor is alcohol. In 2016, 461 people who died in car crashes died in accidents in which alcohol played a factor.
There are plenty of ways to reduce the risk of being in a fatal car accident. It is incredibly important to resist the temptation to look at a phone while driving. Also, never drive drunk, and never drive above the speed limit. Many of the most serious crashes could be avoided if drivers were more cautious and responsible.
