The training of trainers workshop on 'Project Management' ended this Saturday, June 15, 2019 on an optimistic note, because of the recorded results: 37 Gambian officials from different sectors, including 10 women. The training was organized by the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP), in collaboration with the Directorate of Development Planning of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs of The Gambia, and the United Nations Development Program. (UNDP). Indeed, it is the second time in six months that IDEP has organized this course, which responds to capacity building needs for the effective implementation and monitoring of the National Development Plan 2018-2021. The training aims to fill critical gaps and weaknesses identified in all past national development plans and budgets.
The achievements of the Gambia National Development Plan objectives which are anchored into the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 'Africa we want' Agenda 2063, can only be realized through rigorous Project Management implemented by all Planning Units within the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies. In this regard, the participants of this Training of Trainers have been well selected, so as to include all sectors.
According to ECA's Long-term Development Planning Policy Brief: A Foundation to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals in Africa 2016, Planning helps to define a vision and national development goals for economic and social transformation. However, Africa's economic gains have not had the desired effect on social development despite sustained growth over the last twenty years. Serious inequalities persist, both within and between countries, indicating that growth has not been sufficiently inclusive and equitable for all segments of the population.
Therefore, the participants of this training are strongly encouraged to share their knowledge through step down training; and vigorously support the development of bankable project proposals for the Gambia to achieve equitable and inclusive growth that leaves no one behind
