GM Joins the Gender and Diversity KPI Alliance

DETROIT - General Motors continues to advance its commitment to workplace inclusion by joining the Gender and Diversity KPI Alliance (GDKA). By signing on to this initiative, GM pledges to use three key performance indicators (KPIs) as part of its efforts to measure and improve diversity in its organization.

The KPIs, which were developed based on the work of the World Economic Forum International Business Council, the Global Reporting Initiative and other advocates, will measure the following:

1. Percentage of representation on the GM board
2. Percentage of representation by employee category
3. Pay equality: the ratio of compensation by employee category (i.e. equal pay for equal work)

"Diversity in all its dimensions - including of thought and experience - creates a stronger workforce and promotes innovative thinking," said Kristen Siemen, GM vice president of Sustainable Workplaces, chief sustainability officer and Catalyst Board of Advisors member. Catalyst is a global nonprofit that works with leading companies to build workplaces that work for women. "We are proud to be leading equal representation at the board level and are excited for the day when female and diverse leadership at all levels is the norm."

"By committing to measuring diversity using these KPIs, corporate leaders are taking the steps necessary to drive change," said Lorraine Hariton, GDKA co-chair and Catalyst president and CEO. "These companies serve as role models for others, demonstrating that leadership and accountability start at the top."

General Motors has long been a leader in advocating for gender equity in the workplace and has been recognized for this commitment in three top employee equity rankings: Bloomberg's Gender-Equality Index (GEI),Equileap and JUST 100. In addition, GM was recently recognized as one of the 2021 World's Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere.com for exemplifying and advancing corporate citizenship, transparency and standards of integrity.
