Deputy Secretary General discusses NATO-industry cooperation on cyber security

This was the key message from NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană to senior representatives from technology, pharmaceutical and insurance companies, gathered at the virtual Ibec Global Summit. The event, titled 'Cybersecurity: The Transatlantic Reboot', was organised by Ibec, Ireland's largest and most influential business representative organisation.

Mr. Geoană outlined the steps that NATO is taking to defend itself and support its Allies against cyber threats. "We simply cannot take our technological edge for granted. Our future security depends on our ability to understand, adopt and implement emerging and disruptive technologies - at speed and at scale. And NATO has a key role in driving this change," he said.

In discussion with Jackie King, the Executive Director for International Business at Ibec, the Deputy Secretary General underlined the importance of resilience in the face of hybrid warfare tactics, and explained how NATO is helping its Allies to increase their ability to withstand and recover from hybrid attacks, including in the cyber domain. In that endeavour, working together with industry is also key, he said.
