McEachin Announces Over $630,000 in Health Grants to VCU

Richmond - Today, Congressman A. Donald McEachin (VA-04) announced two grants totaling $634,162 from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). VCU will receive $487,141 for its Resiliency Workforce Training Program to help prevent burnout for health care professionals and other workers, and $147,021 to support research into aging.

"Our health care and public safety workers often experience significant stress in their day-to-day jobs," saidRep. McEachin (VA-04). "This has been greatly exacerbated by the ongoing pandemic as about 20% of health care workers have left their jobs. This program will help prevent burnout and mental health conditions among health professionals, students, and public safety officers. Resiliency training will not only help those in the program, but also benefit the public which depends on their expertise.

"Additionally, as life expectancy and human population increase, so does the number of older Americans living in the U.S," continued Rep. McEachin. "By 2030, 1 in 5 Americans are projected to be 65 years old and over. Research on aging can help us determine how to help older folks be more productive, live independently, and stay healthy for as long as possible."
