First Lady Yumi Hogan Joins The Asian American Foundation Advisory Council

Prominent Asian American Leaders Stand and Rise Together for Anti-Asian Hate and Community Empowerment

ANNAPOLIS, MD-First Lady Yumi Hogan today joined the Advisory Council of The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), a new nonprofit organization established in reaction to the recent surge of hate crimes against Asian Americans. As one of the most distinguished Asian American leaders in the nation, the First Lady will support TAAF as an advisory council member.

'It is my greatest honor to join The Asian American Foundation. It is an excellent example of Asian American leaders standing and rising together to protect our communities across the country and represent our voices,' said the First Lady. 'I am ready to fight for creating a safer tomorrow without discrimination and hate, giving a better life to the next generations to come, and teaching our society what being American means.'

Led by the most prominent Asian Americans in the United States, TAAF's board of directors includes Li Lu, Founder and Chairman of Himalaya Capital; Jerry Yang, Founder of AME Cloud Ventures and Co-Founder of Yahoo!; Joseph Bae, Co-President of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR); Joseph Tsai, Owner of Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty; and Sheila Marcelo, Founder of Care.com.

On the advisory council, First Lady Yumi Hogan is joined by Lanhee Chen, Director of Domestic Policy Studies in the Public Policy Program and Hoover Institution Fellow at Stanford University; Condoleezza Rice, 66th U.S. Secretary of State; Tad and Dianne Taube Director of Hoover Institution; Kenneth Hersh, President and CEO of The George W. Bush Presidential Center; Jim Yong Kim, Former President of The World Bank Group; and Indra Nooyi, Former Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo.

Her leadership in Maryland has been important for our communities and her advice and experience will be critical for The Asian American Foundation. TAAF was founded to solve for the longstanding lack of investment and resources provided to AAPI communities, and Advisory Council members like First Lady Yumi Hogan will help support the work we lead to close critical gaps in support for AAPIs,' said Sonal Shah, president of TAAF.
