SPIE rolls out a new technique at Penly nuclear power station in Seine-Maritime

Cergy, 25 january 2022 -SPIE Nucléaire, a French subsidiary of the SPIE group, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, has been given the green light to roll out its new technique that will improve safety at Penly nuclear power station.

Commissioned once again by EDF to perform the maintenance work on Penly nuclear power station, SPIE Nucléaire has developed a new type of calibration bench that offers improved safety when performing various tests on auxiliary valves.

These valves are crucial as they keep the reactors at the correct pressure and temperature, regulate fluids and ensure the required impermeability. The calibration benches are used when performing various valve safety tests.

The new technique is performed directly on the safety valve, which allows it to remain in place and removes the risk of leakage associated with its transport. The quality of the teams' work on this innovative product, which has been tested under real conditions, sets it apart.

A five-year contract that combines safety, security, excellence and innovation

SPIE Nucléaire has been responsible for maintaining the auxiliary valves, during both operation and shutdown, since 2018, and will continue to do so until 2022. This unique, highly innovative, new technique reinforces the subsidiary's position as a major player in the French nuclear sector.
