2024 Venue Tax passed in the General Election on May 4

Published on May 04, 2024

On Saturday, May 4, City of Fort Worth voters in the counties of Tarrant, Denton and Parker voted on the 2024 Venue Tax in the General Election. The venue tax passed with over 70% of the total votes.

Why it matters: With the approval of the venue tax, the new hotel occupancy tax rate is now 17% of the price paid for a hotel room in the City of Fort Worth, a 2% increase. The purpose of the tax is to fund the renovation and related infrastructure projects of the Fort Worth Convention Center and other tourism related projects. The tax is added onto the price paid for a hotel room and is paid by visitors at hotels in Fort Worth.

Go deeper: The tax is used to promote the City's tourism and hospitality industry. The tax collected from visitor's nightly hotel rate also increases revenue for tourism assets, which come from visitors coming to Fort Worth for conventions, sporting events, and vacations. The tax helps preserve historical sites, museums and organizing sporting events. Funds will also support the operating costs at:

  • Fort Worth Convention Center
  • Visit Fort Worth
  • Will Rogers Memorial Center

What's next: Canvas Election results will take place at the regularly scheduled Fort Worth City Council meeting at 6p.m. on Tuesday, May 14 in the Fort Worth City Council Chambers at 200 Texas St.
