President Moon to attend ASEAN meetings, APEC summit

President Moon Jae-in will travel to Singapore and Papua New Guinea from Nov. 13 to 18 to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meetings and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

Cheong Wa Dae Spokesperson Kim Eui-kyeom briefed the details of the president's schedule for his trip on Nov. 5.

President Moon will first visit Singapore from Nov. 13 to 16 and attend a series of ASEAN-related meetings, including the East Asia Summit.

'The president will explain his administration's New Southern Policy and the plans for increasing investment and trade within the region,' said the spokesperson. 'He will also emphasize the importance of cooperate within the East Asian community.'

President Moon will also visit Papua New Guinea from Nov. 17 to 18 to attend the APEC summit where he will explain national plans for 'an innovative and inclusive state in which all people prosper together.' The meeting will be held under the theme of 'harnessing inclusive opportunities, embracing the digital future.'

'There are also plans for bilateral summits with major countries that attend the ASEAN meetings and APEC summit,' said Kim. 'The meetings will strengthen ties with partner nations and boost support for the Korean government's effort to build lasting peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.'
