Henderson Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band to perform April 25

Henderson State University Bands will present "Feelin' the Blues," a concert featuring the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Russell Fine Arts recital hall.

The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Nevada Mills, will perform works by King, Gould, Standridge, End, and George Gershwin.

"This is the 100th anniversary of Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin," said Mills. "WIth that being the major work to build around, it was only natural to keep our program focused on jazz and blues."

The performance of Rhapsody in Blue will feature Dr. May Tsao-Lim, professor of music, on piano.

Dr. Jamie Lipton, along with student conductors Andrew Deuel, Jacob Burks, Kaden Manley, and Lanie Richter, will conduct the Symphony Band as it performs works from Cesarini, Balmages, Curnow, La Plante, and Daehn.

"We feel this is an exciting concert with many different genres to enjoy," Mills said.

The concert is free and open to the public. It can also be viewed online via Facebook Live at facebook.com/HSUBand.
