“No power will be able to make Turkey regress from the level it has reached in economy and investments”

Addressing citizens in Van, President Erdoğan said: 'I am declaring it from here in Van that no power will ever again be able to make Turkey a country where terrorist organizations roam freely. No power will ever again be able to make Turkey regress from the level it has already reached in economy, investments and infrastructure.'

President and Justice and Development (AK) Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke during a campaign rally in the province of Van in the run-up to the local elections scheduled for March 31, 2019.

Underlining that those seeking to sow discord among the citizens in Turkey have for years tried to divide the citizens as rightist-leftist, Alawite-Sunni or Turk-Kurd, President Erdoğan stated that such confrontations, contrived by those who have designs on Turkey, have left countless lives in ruins.

Noting that they, as the state, did everything in their power to get Van back on its feet following the massive earthquake that hit the city in 2011, President Erdoğan said that the terrorist organization, on the other hand, worked to make the life in the city unbearable for the citizens by digging up trenches, raiding people's homes and disrespecting their honor.

'WE REALIZED REFORMS BY TAKING ALL KINDS OF RISKS'

Recalling the bloody attacks carried out by the terrorist organization PKK against innocent people, President Erdoğan said: 'If we hadn't cornered these terrorists and destroyed them in their lairs, they would now be shedding the blood of innocent people in Van and in other cities. If we hadn't chased after them across our borders and crushed them, they would now be denying us any taste of life with the sufferings they would be inflicting. We have worked very hard to solve our Kurdish brothers and sisters' problems concerning backwardness and freedoms and rights, as we have done for all the other segments of the society in Turkey. So much so that, we, in a short span of time, realized the reforms, which even couldn't be voiced previously, by taking all kinds of risks.'

TL28 BILLION WORTH OF INVESTMENT IN VAN IN 17 YEARS

Drawing attention to the TL28 billion worth of investment made in Van in the past 17 years in a wide range of areas including education, healthcare, construction, husbandry and infrastructure, President Erdoğan asked the citizens in Van to support them in order to make Turkey one of the top 10 economies of the world by 2023, the centennial of the Republic, and added: 'I am declaring it from here in Van that no power will ever again be able to make Turkey a country where terrorist organizations roam freely. No power will ever again be able to make Turkey regress from the level it has already reached in economy, investments and infrastructure.'
