Clough Awarded Engineering, Procurement and Construction Scope for Australia’s First Net Zero Emissions Hydrogen and Gas Capable Power Plant in New South Wales

Clough, in consortium with its partner GE, is proud to announce the award of the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scope for Tallawarra Stage B, Australia's first hydrogen and gas capable power station in Yallah, New South Wales. Tallawarra Stage B will be Australia's first net zero emissions hydrogen and gas capable power plant, with direct carbon emissions from the project offset over its operational life.

Tallawarra Stage B is a 300+ MW expansion of the existing Tallawarra A power station, which is located in Yallah, in the Illawarra region of New South Wales approximately 13 kilometres southwest of Wollongong.

Peter Bennett, Clough CEO and Managing Director said: 'We are very excited to be part of the Tallawarra Stage B project, Australia's first hydrogen and gas capable power station. This power plant expansion will boost the Illawarra economy and produce hundreds of jobs during the construction phase.'

John Galvin, Clough Executive Vice President, Australia & Asia Pacific said: 'Our consortium partner, GE, is a leader in gas turbine technology and combined with Clough's Australian project delivery expertise create a capability that is unparalleled.'

At the peak of construction, the project is expected to create hundreds of jobs and inject $300 million to the local economy. Once commissioned, the 300+-megawatt plant will be ready to start generating electricity for 150,000 homes with only 30 minutes' notice. The project will address the need for fast-start flexible capacity, to complement renewables coming into the system.
