The Foreign Ministry promotes the San Jerónimo – Santa Teresa border crossing with the New Mexico and Chihuahua Economy Ministries

A binational meeting on the San Jerónimo, Chihuahua - Santa Teresa, New Mexico port of entry was held at the Foreign Ministry with the aim of facilitating trade in the near term.

The Mexican delegation was led by the Chief Officer for North America, Roberto Velasco, and the Chihuahua Secretary of Economy and Innovation, María Angélica Granados. The U.S. delegation included Alicia J. Keyes, Cabinet Secretary for New Mexico Economic Development.

The Mexican officials gave a progress report on the San Jerónimo - Santa Teresa port of entry, its access road and the railway that will be built. Modernization of the existing infrastructure together with the new additions will create savings in vehicle operating costs and reduce travel times. It will make it easier to cross the border in the Ciudad Juárez area and improve the intermodal connection of the center and the Bajio region with the maritime rail system of the U.S. west coast.

Chief Officer Roberto Velasco welcomed the cooperation between both governments aimed at assisting the export sector. Secretary Keyes underscored the readiness of the New Mexico government to collaborate on border infrastructure. Secretary María Angélica Granados highlighted the close collaboration between the states of Chihuahua, Mexico, and New Mexico in the U.S.

During the productive meeting, the Foreign Ministry pledged to continue working with Mexican and U.S. authorities to improve our border crossing points on the northern border and to diversify the infrastructure in our North American supply chains.
