UW-Platteville to celebrate 212th Commencement

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will hold its 212th commencement on Saturday, May 11. Chancellor Tammy Evetovich will preside over the three commencement ceremonies, which will be held on Bo Ryan Court, inside Williams Fieldhouse.

The College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. and recognize just over 300 candidates. Tammy Salmon-Stephens, alumna and director of the College of EMS Student Success Programs, will deliver the commencement address. Jacob Keller, a mechanical engineering major from Monticello, Minnesota, is the senior speaker. Dr. Qiong Li, professor and chair of the Department of Chemistry, is the ceremony's marshal. Ethan Chyla, Makenna Halvensleben and Colin Fick will be recognized as the college's valedictorians.

The College of Business, Industry, Life Science and Agriculture ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. and will recognize just over 350 candidates. Dr. Virginia Snyder will deliver the commencement address. Snyder is recently retired as the program director for the Physician Assistant Program at UW-Madison. She was instrumental in implementing the new collaborative partnership that allows students to earn a Master of Physician Assistant Studies from UW-Madison, while completing all coursework at UW-Platteville. Lila Sloan, an agribusiness major from Davis, Illinois, is the senior speaker. Dr. Colleen Kaiser, professor of industrial studies, is the ceremony's marshal. Ashten Chandler will be honored as the valedictorian.

The College of Liberal Arts and Education will celebrate more than 280 candidates, which includes associate degree candidates. The ceremony begins at 4 p.m. JoAnne Uthe-Gibson will deliver the commencement address. She is a longtime educator, having taught at Dubuque Senior High School and Northeast Iowa Community College for more than 30 years. She has received numerous teaching awards throughout her career and was named Fulbright Scholar to the Netherlands. Sydney Byas, an arts administration major from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is the senior speaker. Dr. Yuanyuan Hu, professor of English, is the ceremony's marshal. Elyse Harvancik, Madison Rouse and Sophia Sander are the valedictorians.
