The US National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) of the European Commission signed an administrative arrangement on support to collaborative Research and Innovation projects in the area of Future Network Systems at the DG CONNECT premises in Brussels, on 4 April 2024.
Roberto Viola (left), Director General of DG CONNECT, and Jose W. Fernandez, Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment of the United States, signed the administrative agreement in the area of Future Network Systems.
Signed in the margins of the TTC ministerial meeting, the administrative agreement will encourage and support Research and Innovation cooperation in areas of mutual interest in Future Network Systems that includes technologies to support Future Connectivity Systems, Internet-of-Things, and Next Generation Internet developments.
The EC has a long-standing collaborative research with the US National Science Foundation on internet technologies and communication networks. Research collaboration with the US NSF is an important component of the Next Generation Internet initiative (NGI). The administrative arrangement will advance Research and Innovation projects involving EU teams together with USA teams on emerging topics for the EU NGI and NSF programmes, including technology development, joint demonstrators, and joint contributions to standards.
