Homicide Unit detectives are asking for the community's assistance in identifying the gunman responsible for Monday afternoon's targeted fatal shooting of Shaquille Cotton, 28, in the 600 block of S. 7th Street in the Cayce neighborhood.
The investigation shows that Cotton was standing at the passenger side of a silver vehicle speaking to the occupants when his assailant approached from behind and opened fire. Cotton died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
The gunman, depicted in the attached surveillance photo, is a black man who appears to have long dreadlocks. He was wearing a gray jacket, black jeans and was carrying a black backpack. Anyone knowing who he may be is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
