Contemporary Theater Studies to host August 25 play auditions

ISSUED: 11 August 2022

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - Shepherd's Contemporary Theater Studies Program announces auditions for "The Thanksgiving Play" on Wednesday, August 24, and Thursday, August 25, at 7 p.m. in the Marinoff Theater.

Director kb saine will cast two Caucasian-looking men, one Caucasian-looking woman, and one ethnically/racially ambiguous woman of all ages, abilities, and experience levels (understudy opportunities may arise). Education majors interested in small roles such as teachers are also encouraged to audition. Rehearsals will start at the beginning of September with performances in front of live audiences Fridays-Sundays from October 7 - 15.

In Larissa FastHorse's wickedly funny satire, good intentions collide with absurd assumptions as a group of terminally "woke" teaching artists scrambles to create a pageant that somehow manages to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month while staying absolutely inoffensive to everyone.

Those who wish to audition should prepare 30-90 seconds of a memorized monologue-or poem or short literary work for those who are not theater students-and provide a headshot and resume, if possible. Audition forms will be provided for everyone. Selections from the play will also be provided as needed. No appointments are necessary; actors will be seen as they arrive.

The production team will follow industry COVID protocols, and all applicable University masking guidelines and safety procedures will be enforced during the rehearsal process.

Questions may be directed to kb saine. Those interested in technical roles should contact Chase Molden.
