SEPANG - The President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Mr Salvatore Sciacchitano visited KL International Airport (KLIA) today in conjunction with his working visit to Malaysia. During the visit, Mr Sciacchitano was briefed on the airport operator's latest initiatives in upholding aviation safety and security, enhancing airport capacity and operational efficiency, as well as in protecting the environment - all of which are strategic priorities identified by ICAO.

Malaysia Airports' Managing Director Dato' Iskandar Mahmood echoed the Malaysian government's commitment towards ensuring a holistic and sustainable aviation recovery, "All our efforts in the last two years and moving forward plans are geared towards sustainability. On top of ensuring safety in the new normal for passengers, we have been collaborating with various stakeholders to promote travel and tourism to Malaysia. These include expanding network connectivity by incentivising airlines to either resume operations or introduce new routes, as well as implementing safe and seamless airport processes. We have also embarked on various digitalisation initiatives under Airports 4.0 to make passenger experience at the airport better and more convenient, and will continue to intensify these exciting initiatives further in the future."

Mr Sciacchitano was also provided with an overview of Malaysia Airports' major operational undertakings such as the runway rehabilitation and asset replacement exercises, implementation of biometric facial recognition system, as well as the airport's efforts in reducing carbon emissions and notable achievements in enhancing service standards.
