Rising Stars Girls Basketball Championship Game on Sunday August 14

Join us on Sunday, August 14 at the War Memorial Recreation Center (1640 Cambridge St.) to watch the final two teams in the Rising Stars Instructional Basketball League compete for the championship title. Doors open at 12 p.m. and the championship game will begin at 12:30 p.m. This is the first year that Cambridge Recreation offered the Rising Stars Instructional League for Girls 11 and Under as part of the DHSP Summer Basketball League program.

The event will also celebrate Cambridge athlete Medina Dixon, a CRLS graduate who played Division 1 college basketball and was a member of the gold medal-winning US Women's National Basketball Team in 1990. The Rising Stars League will be renamed the Medina Dixon Instructional League to honor Dixon's legacy of supporting girls' sports in Cambridge.

Local athletes will take the court following the championship game.

Event schedule:
12:30 p.m. Naming Ceremony and first annual Medina Dixon Championship 11U Instructional League
1:30 p.m. Cambridge Police Department vs. Boston Police Department
2:30 p.m. 16 and Under Women's Basketball: Connecticut All Stars vs. the Medina Dixon Dream Team

3:30 p.m. 18 and Under Women's Basketball: Connecticut All Stars vs. the Medina Dixon Dream Team
(led by Cambridge Pride Alumna Sophia Vital, featuring players bound for NCAA Division 1-basketball teams)

The event, which will include DJ and dance team entertainment, is part of a regional effort to support girls' sports and athletes who identify as female, and to bring the best of women's basketball to Cambridge.
