Dallas ISD News: Dallas ISD COVID-19 Update: April 16

NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release: April 16, 2021

DALLAS - Dallas ISD has been awarded the National Association of Music Merchants Best Communities for Music Education Award for the second year in a row, recognizing the district's support and commitment to music education as part of a well-rounded education. This year's competition centered around the stories and experiences of instruction during COVID-19.
Of the 686 school districts in the country to receive this designation, Dallas ISD is one of the few large urban districts receiving the award.

Early voting for the May 1 Joint Election will open on Monday
Early voting for the Saturday, May 1, Joint Election will take place between April 19 and 27. On the ballot there will be 33 cities and 14 school districts with various races, including Dallas ISD's districts 1, 3 and 9. Any Dallas County qualified voter may vote in person at any of the 58 early voting locations, or apply for a ballot by mail before 4:30 p.m., on April 20.

Intersession calendar guide for parents
Forty-one schools have adopted an intersession calendar, which extends the school year to start at the beginning of August and end in late June. To ensure that all families understand the details of this alternative calendar, the district prepared a guide that explains what the intersession model entails and how it will help address learning loss in the district.

This is Home profiles - Salvador Becerra, from custodian and maintenance worker to passionate teacher
After more than 34 years as a custodian and maintenance man at Dallas ISD and other companies, Salvador Becerra jumped at the opportunity to share his knowledge and experience as a full-time teacher at the district's Career Institutes East. He wants to show his students that the skills they acquire in this program give them the opportunity to gain hands-on, real world experience that can be used to land high-demand, high-wage jobs.

Dallas ISD parent climate survey
All families in the district are invited to fill in the 2020-2021 parent climate survey. Parents with more than one child enrolled in the district will have to fill in a survey for each student. The results of this survey allow the district to identify areas of improvement in order to provide better instruction and services to our families.
